THE COLONY, TEXAS - Avery Zweig of McKinney, Texas, has claimed the Volunteers of America Classic Girls Championship hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute, by one shot with an even-par final round on Old American Golf Club. She won the Championship with rounds of 74-71-71 for a 1-over-par total. Rounds one and two were conducted on Tribute Golf Links.
Along with first place honors and her exemption into next week's LPGA Tour Volunteers of America Classic, Zweig returns home with a custom pair of Lucchese Boots and a crystal trophy.
Zweig is a top player in Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour events and qualified for the Girls Championship through the All American Tour. She won the Hawks Creek Open at Hawks Creek Golf Club on February 27-28.
Farah O’Keefe of Austin, Texas, finished runner-up at 2-over-par total after rounds of 72-70-75. She also earned an exemption into the Volunteers of America Classic.
O’Keefe qualified through the Legends Junior Tour finishing in the top-five of the Bluebonnet Championship May 1-2 held at Brownwood Country Club.
In a tie for third, Tillie Claggett of the Woodlands, Texas, and Michelle Zhang of Plano, Texas finished at 3-over-par for the event.
Rounding out the top five, Jiyu Han of Cedar Park, Texas, claimed fifth place at 4-over-par.
The 54-hole stroke play championship featured a field of 63 of the top female junior golfers in the State of Texas. In addition to two LPGA Tour exemptions, the 2021 Volunteers of America Classic Girls Championship offers World Amateur Golf Rankings, Global Junior Golf Rankings and maximum American Junior Golf Association performance based entry stars.
The LPGA Tour Volunteers of America Classic will be hosted at Golf Clubs at The Tribute on Old American Golf Club July 1-4.
